#23: Don’t Send Greeting Cards

Remember when your grandmother would send you a birthday card with a dollar bill inside as a present? That’s what it still feels like when you send someone a greeting card: like it came from their grandmother.

You can update the experience by making your own card, sending a postcard, or using one of those blank cards with the funny pictures that are trying so hard to be cool. But I’m afraid greeting cards are one of those niceties of life that are going the way of the paper invitation.

I work with Jr. Highers and I send them a couple of cards a month (yes, usually hand-made or blank with a modern design) and they LOVE it. Because getting mail is fun no matter how old you are.

gotta agree. love getting cards, especially since no one sends them anymore.

I only mail cards to Grandchildren & Great-Grandchildren, anyone else it’s either hand delivered or ecards. Boyfriend loves special ecards, especially certain types. Do those count as “greeting cards”, in this context?

Hallmark would disagree with you — greeting cards are just fine and also a huge business. There’s not acting old; and there’s also trying too hard to come up with silly rules.
