Robin Roberts on Good Morning America dresses beautifully without looking like a stylist runs after her every minute telling her what to wear. I'd almost bet that she chooses her clothes and dresses offset like she does on set. The only times I've seen her defer to the public is when she's choosing her Oscar gowns. And she always looks stunning. AND she rocked her baldness when she was going through chemo.

The problem with movie stars is that they didn't actually select those outfits themselves--Larry David does dress in real life like he does on the show. Katharine Hepburn was very tall and very thin. Diane Keaton looks strange in real life, trust me on this.

And both of them went for androgyny, which isn't a look for a grownup woman, really. Marlene Dietrich is a better choice--she wore very tailored clothes most of the time. Isaac Mizrahi said that as your body starts to lose its defined shape, your clothing should be more defined. No tents, no blousy blouses.

Helen Mirren seems to look fabulous and relaxed everywhere she goes. Same with Meryl Streep. I loved Meryl's wardrobe in "It's Complicated."

I'd say Lauren Hutton has the femmed-up version of Larry David. Comfy, but more stylish. Although on chunkier gals, it may not have the same stylish effect, I don't know.
Eileen Fisher: pajama clothes for us old bags?

Don't act so 'white' You had me until that one, Are you serious ? You would not dare say 'don't act so black,' would you ? While I can appreciate the poor attempt at humor, sorry, this one is not really funny. It's actually sad. This is typical - throwing out everything the previous generations have struggled for, simply to appear more trendy. We don't have to mock an entire race to be 'cool' do
we ? And if that's the case, then I'm happy to be old.

I thought it was cool now to just be proud of who you are, and where you come from ! Sorry- but that includes white people too. Maybe it's the cool young people who need to get over their hypocrisy and double standards.

You're absolutely right, though somehow I never aspire to look like Ellen Degeneres. I did buy a pair of custom Chuck Taylors in gray leather but I keep forgetting I own them. Too youthfully pretentious.

Ellen Degeneres wears a female equivalent of this most of the time. I have long envied her ability to wear sneakers stylishly. I always look like I'm stuck in 1982 when I try to pair up my beloved leather court shoes with... well... pretty much anything. But I think it helps if they're in some color other than white, or if they have that probably-not-trendy-anymore low back that I always walk right out of, leaving my half-shoe on the sidewalk.
