#159: Don’t Brush Your Hair
Like most of the best How Not To Act Old tips, this one came from one of my kids. We’d driven into the city for a special night out, and as we were about to get out of the car, I was distraught to discover that I’d forgotten my brush. Now I’d have to go buy one.
“Don’t do that!” my daughter cried. “It’s much cooler if you leave your hair messy!”
As with so many other HNTAO tips, suddenly my eyes were opened and I realized, yes, she was right: It was old to brush/comb/groom one’s hair, and not-old to let the strands fall where they may.
Some not-old people, it seems, even go to great lengths (bad pun intended) to not brush their hair.
Here’s a tutorial, for those with waaaaaay too much time on their hands:
I find I can get the same effect in half as much time by fucking Tom Brady and not looking in the mirror afterward.
I did write about How Not To Have Old Hair over at More.com, but I wasn’t yet enlightened on the not-brushing tip. But there are other major not-old hair directives too, including the two biggies: No gray and don’t chop it all off.
By following all my own advice, I now look like this, and you could too:

I went to that link on how to achieve a messy hair effect – somehow it’s just not right that I’d have to go to THAT much trouble to make my hair look as if I just got out of bed.

Hmmm, haven’t thought about NOT brushing. If I were to act not old–read, like my 12-year-old daughter–I would not let one minute pass without running my fingers through my hair (for what?).
After having written about 50,000 how-tos, my big beauty HNTAOs are 1) be sure NOT to let hair color go too dark (that fake jet black look) or too light (that fake beach blonde look) and 2) be sure NOT to wear too much makeup to cover up your old skin or too little, as if the natural look might work when you’re old.

who captioned the YouTube photo with “f___ng Tom Brady?” Was it you, Pamela, or does my computer have a virus? The caption seemed way out of place.
